JULY 2020 UPDATE
As you were already aware due to the current pandemic COVID-19 we had to cancel our next event the Jon Palmer Band and subsequently the rest of the 2020 programme. This event will now take place in 2021.
We can now inform you that the committee is now busy looking to arrange dates and artists for our 2021 programme and we will share the information as soon as we are able to.
This decision is based on the current guidelines issued by Public Health, the World Health Organisation and the Government. All of us on the Committee feel that people’s safety must be our priority at this uncertain time.
We will of course keep the situation under review and keep you updated via our website and facebook page.
In the meantime please keep safe and keep washing your hands!
South Lakes Music Partnership was formed in 2002 by a group of local enthusiasts with the aim of bringing the best of live folk, blues and acoustic music to Ulverston. The name was changed to Ulverston Live Music (ULM) in 2013.
ULM is a small charity/not-for-profit venture, and all proceeds are ploughed back into bringing more artists to the area and to invest in equipment. ULM also raises money for local charities by promoting special events and by producing a compilation DVD of the year’s events to be available for donations at Christmas.
Nick chairs the group, Lynda and Linda are secretaries/treasurers, John & Nick do the sound, while Nikki and Steve look after the website and mailing list, Dave, Jekyll & Derek look after publicity and the door.
ULM can usually provide accommodation for artists, and has a well equipped PA system and sound engineer able to cater for most requirements.
ULM has a policy of supporting local new talent. This is in the form of a 15 minute slot at the beginning of the evening, which gives an opportunity for up and coming acts to perform in front of an attentive and receptive audience. ULM vet all potential support acts and in particular support local folk music initiatives for young people. They tend to be of a high standard and some have gone on to compete in the Radio 2 Young Folk Musician of the Year Awards. We hope you appreciate our policy but if for any reason this is not possible (if you provide your own support for example) please let us know.
Gigs are at a local social club (very comfortable venue with a capacity of 150) and normally take place on the first Friday of the month apart from July when we coincide with the local music festival (usually a Thursday in mid July).
Interested artists/agents should get in touch via the Contact Us form with an idea of price, available dates and PA requirements. It would also be helpful if you could send (or provide a link to) a demo.
