Dave is a founder member and Vice Chair of ULM. He has lived in Ulverston since 1981, having moved here from Merseyside. Formed in 2002, Ulverston Live Music aims to bring music to Ulverston that they thought wouldn’t normally come here. It’s been hardgraft for someone with no musical or technical ability, but a love of music and friendship has carried him along. Dave is a volunteer biker with North West Blood Bikes, Lancs and Lakes. He is also secretary of Furness Refugee Support. Dave is 65, happily married to Linda for 46 years, with 2 sons Billy and John, and 5 grandkids, Charlotte, Harriet, Ava, Finley and newest addition Quinn. After working as a senior nurse with the NHS for 33 years, he retired to concentrate on his passions of family, music, bikes, political activism, and Ulverston town.
A founder member of ULM, John's main role is engineering the sound at our concerts. Originally from Chesterfield, Derbyshire (a small drinking town with a coal mining problem), he came to Cumbria in 1989 to work as a Senior Nurse in the NHS. Now retired, when not sound engineering or performing music, John devotes most of his spare time conducting extensive self funded research into the effects of alcohol on the Central Nervous System. A noted fell runner and Olympic standard projectile vomiter, he also enjoys train-spotting, embroidery and pilates. He remains single........
The newest member of the committee and still finding her feet and attempting to assist with organisation. A love of live music and discovering new “favourites” (such as The Gerry Colvin Band, Dave Gibb and Merry Hell) brought to Ulverston by ULM led to the natural progression from fan to committee member. Along with a love of music Nancy has a passion for travel which she fulfils whenever possible - both in this country and abroad.
Steve was born in Newcastle, brought up in Whitley Bay and Bellingham Northumberland, where he spent a lot of time hanging out with sheep on his stepfather's farm. Understandably, at the age of 17 he ran from the sheep and the hills to join the Navy, with the allure of wine, women and song. He became a Submariner Mechanic Marine Engineer, and got to hang out with a load of men in a tin can submersed mostly in the Barents Sea. Steve moved to Ulverston in 2014 to be with his wife Nikki, who he married in 2019. Since leaving the Navy, Steve has worked as a technical director in the commercial tyre industry, and more recently as a health safety environment and quality executive. Steve loves drinking original navy rum (MoD issue) and poisoning unsuspecting people with it. Steve is the secretary for Ulverston Carnival Committee, is a member of the Barrow Submariners Association, and assists ULM with their mailing list and website.
Nikki, also known as Dee Dee to her friends, was born in Harpur of the Hey (Harpurhey usually pronounced with no H’s) in Manchester, a stone’s throw away from Bernard Manning’s Embassy Club. After 20 years working within the care sector mainly as a registered care manager she decided to leave the profession. Nikki recently married to Steve now works from home supporting her husband in his job as well as working for herself. Currently studying NEBOSH general certificate. Has recently become an associate member of the Barrow Submariners Association. Nikki is the Vice Chair of Ulverston Carnival Committee, and assists ULM by looking after the website and mailing lists. Nikki loves all genres of music and is hoping to attend more festivals following the recent purchase of Doreen the T25 Volkswagen camper!
